San Gerbone Forest (photo by D. DiSanto)

Mountain slope made up of molasse sediments, facing south-east, of the Laga Mountains, which from the Li Quarti Mount (m 1,954) gradually climbs down towards the San Gerbone cave. It mainly is a woodland, with mesophilic deciduous forests among which there are lime trees, sessile oaks, Scots elms in the lower part, and beeches in the upper part. Some stretches of the forests host centuries-old trees.
Due to its ecological features the site is considered as belonging to the continental biogeographical region, even if the 22% of it is located in the alpine region within the 7 km of buffer.
