Historical Holidays...
Tenuta di Vignale, situated in the south of
Campiglia, lies on a gentle hill dominating the plain of the river Cornia, near the ruins of a castle that was known in the past as
Vignale Vecchio. The name "Vignale" probably derives from the Latine adjective "vinealis" and therefore we can imagine that those lands were in the past cultivated with vineyards. The castle was owned by the Lombard Lambardi and later, around 711, it belonged to the Archbishop's Revenue of Lucca..
