"A piedi nudi" is one of the best works by Nino Chiovini. A tale of people, places, a world that is gone. Val Pogallo and the mountains of Verbania are the setting in which Sofia Benzi and his son Antonio interpret a stunted life made of a few joys. The barefooted Sofia, who died, like many others, falling from a rocky spur with a basket full of hay on her shoulders, has been taken as a symbol of the local women, for centuries the leading characters of the life in Val Grande.
