A Precious Biological Corridor between the Coastal Woods and Bracciano Lake

Where in Italy Monumento Naturale di Galeria Antica
It is one of the most fascinating ghost towns in Lazio. The ruins of this medieval village, whose origins probably date back to the Etruscan period, lie on a tufa spur along the Arrone river, not far from Via Braccianense. Covered with a thick vegetation, the village has been abandoned two centuries ago. This led to the formation of a particularly interesting ecosystem. Its luxuriant vegetation includes Ilex tree, Turkey oak, Downy oak, Laurel and Maple, together with Willows, Elms, and Alders in the wet ravines. There are many different animals living in the area: Kestrels, Little Owls, and Kites flying over the hill, foxes and hedgehogs hiding among the ruins. Oak woods house Blackbirds and Wrens, Wrynecks and Warblers. During the migratory period, you can see Grey Herons. In the waters of Arrone there are gobies, chubs and eels.
