News from the Italian Parks

Within the Life Praterie Project an intense and positive meeting of Mayors, Separated Goods Managers and Park Authority took place on the 25th of February in Assergi with the aim of urging the protected area managers to have a more active role in the ongoing Participatory Process for the shared creation of a grazing frame regulation, as the other territorial actors asked for.

The meeting, coordinated by the team of the Grasslands Project, was organized by the President of the Park Authority Arturo Diaconale and by the Director Marcello Maranella. The representatives from several municipalities took part in the meeting: L'Aquila, Barisciano, Ofena, Villa Santa Lucia, Pietracamela, Castelvecchio Calvisio, Rocca Santa Maria, Pizzoli, Villa Celiera, Bussi sul Tirino and Carapelle Calvisio, together with the Separated Authorities for the Goods of Civic Use from the municipalities of Paganica, Arischia, Pietracamela, Aragno, Intermesoli.


Such opportunity was favorable to combine the proposals and the contents of the "Grazing frame regulation", and to clarify the safeguard details of the civic uses, of the administrative responsibilities and of the local habits, in the perspective of an effective planning of the transhumance period, of the cattle size and of the guidelines for the pastures entrusting and the maintenance of the territory.

The President Diaconale urged the participants to keep on guaranteeing their participation in the next territorial meetings taking place in March, and he addressed the absent ones inviting them to join the innovative and democratic process proposed by the Park Authority. Managers and Park have the duty and the responsibility to control the grazing activity. A virtuous use of the pastures helps safeguard the grasslands, meaning by that a common good for the socio-economic recovery of the mountain areas.
