Aree Protette della Provincia di Arezzo

The System of the Protected Areas of Arezzo Province

Sistema delle Aree Protette della Provincia di Arezzo has known a considerable development with the coming into force of the Regional Law 11th April 1995, n. 49 "Norme sui Parchi, le Riserve Naturali e le Aree Naturali Protette di Interesse Locale", extending the related safeguard rules to important territories listed in the "Carta del Rispetto della Natura" and according to the Directive 92/43/CEE "Habitat".
In particular, with the approval of the 1st Protected Areas Regional Program (Del. C.R. n. 133 of 01/03/95) the first three Regional Nature Reserves have been located:

• "Sasso di Simone" within the territory of the Municipality of Sestino
• "Ponte a Buriano e Penna" interested by part of the territory in the Municipalities of Arezzo, Civitella della Chiana, Laterina
• "Valle dell'Inferno e Bandella" interested by part of the territory in the Municipalities of Laterina, Montevarchi, Pergine Valdarno, Terranuova Braccioli.

With the 2nd Protected Areas Regional Program (Del. C.R. n. 256 of 16/7/97) the System has been enriched with 4 Nature Reserves:

• "Alta Valle del Tevere-Monte Nero" within the Municipality of Pieve S. Stefano
• "Monti Rognosi" within the Municipality of Anghiari and, as far as the Adjacent Area is concerned, of Caprese Michelangelo
• "Alpe della Luna" within the territory of the Municipalities of Badia Tedalda, Sansepolcro, Pieve S. Stefano
• "Bosco di Montalto" within the territory of the Municipality of Pieve S. Stefano.
