Archaeological and Paleontological Museum

Exhibit "Dalle balene ai rinoceronti astigiani"

Open until 31/5/98 in the former school "Rodari", Via Croce Verde, 6 - 14100 Asti.
Didactic panels dealing with fossils, explaining what they are, how they form, and the reason why they have been found in the territory of Asti. Particular attention is paid to a few samples of terrestrial and maritime animals which inhabited this area in the prehistoric period: a mastodon, a rhino, a big wild ox, a dolphin. There is also a detailed documentation about a rorqual whale whose skeleton was found in 1993 in San Marzanotto.
From September the exhibition will be permanent in the seat of Riserva di Valleandona Valle Botto.

In Asti is possible to visit important monuments which bear witness of its great past: the Cathedral, the Collegiata di S. Secondo, the Baptistery and the Church of San Pietro in Consavia, Vittorio Alfieri's house, the Sant'Anastasio crypt and the Lapidario museum...

Rocchetta Tanaro

Oasis "Il Verneto"

Alder wood grown on a soil soaked in water. A biotope of considerable importance, which has been recently acquired by WWF which manages it in collaboration with the Park Authority.


S. Maria di Flexio Church

Locally known as the "Madonna delle Ciappellette", it is situated in a suburban area, along the provincial road leading to Nizza Monferrato. The apse is what is left of the old little panoramic church which depended in the past on the Benedictine Abbey of Pomposa. The main body was subsequently rebuilt and it presents several Neogothic patterns.

In the wine-growers cooperative "'L Post dal Vin" it is possible to buy and taste wine - Via Salie - Rocchetta Tanaro - Tel. 0141/644143.

In Mombercelli, in the surroundings of the Park, Museo Civico d'Arte Moderna is open in Via Brofferio, 21.
Opening hours: on Sundays 10.00 a.m.-12.30 p.m.; 3.00 p.m.-6.00 p.m.; weekdays, by previous booking in Mombercelli Town Hall - Tel. 0141/955121.
In the museum, important works of contemporary artists are on display: Caratti, Mastroianni, Rosso, Paulucci, Guglielminetti, Spazzapan...

 

Incisa Scapaccino

  • SS. Vittore e Corona Parish Church
    There are valuable frescoes inside.

  • N.S. del Carmine Church
    Built in the 15th century, it preserves Romanesque-Gothic sections.

  • Medieval Quarters
 

Vaglio Serra

  • Crova Palace
    It is situated in the upper urban center and houses nowadays the Town Hall. It was built by the Crova barons in the 17th century on the remains of the ancient castle, and refurbished along the centuries. The northern side is characterized by a square tower.   • San Pancrazio Parish Church
    Built at the beginning of the 19th century.

  • San Pancrazio Sanctuary
    Dating back to the year 948, it has been refurbished through the centuries. It has received a remarkable quantity of ex voto for the graces received.
 

Vinchio

  • Parish Church (18th century)
    Its Baroque façade has been recently restored. It has a nave and two aisles, of Romanesque style with Renaissance decorations.

  • Confraternity of the SS. Trinità
    With a 17th century façade.
    Open for tasting and sale of wine: Vinchi and Vaglio Serra winegrowers cooperative.
