From Colle del Murtè to S. Bartolomeo

The Trail of the Old Villages

  • Trail Conditions: On foot
  • Interest: Flora, Wildlife, Hystory
  • Departure: Colle del Murtè (trattoria dei Cacciatori) (711m)
  • Arrival: S. Bartolomeo (800m)
  • Duration: 4 hour/s 30 minutes
  • Difficulty Level: easy
  • Length: 11 km
  • Difference in height: 500m

If you want to carry out a long but very pleasant walk in the woodlands of the lower Valle Pesio, we suggest you this itinerary going from Colle del Murtè to the edge of the Nature Park.
Despite its length, the itinerary is easy for the good conditions of the trail, a limited difference in height, and the lack of steep stretches, and is ideal for guided visits with schools and tours by mountain bike.
The walk is varied and not particularly wearing, and is a pleasant journey across nature, history, life of the past generations, among the meadows and walls of the old abandoned villages. The itinerary follows the ancient trails linking the several villages of Vallone di Fiolera, which was once densely populated, and leads to the country hamlet of S. Bartolomeo after about 11 km, but with a reasonable difference in height, and therefore can be gone along by trained hikers.
The itinerary leaves from Colle del Murtè, near Trattoria dei Cacciatori, and after the initial climb (do not worry!) continues with a little difference in height along a beautiful trail up to the chapel of Pilone dell'Olocco, on the watershed with Vallone di Lurisia.
From here, following the indications and a slight descent, you will get to Borgata Fuggin; turn left immediately after, towards Tetto Nonetta. Here you will follow a descent and turn left towards Borgata Mauri. The trail continues with a slight climb crossing Borgata Birun and Borgata Castel. Do not take the road on the left and go ahead to Borgata Mauri: here turn left towards Borgata Barril, where the trail becomes steep, up to the wonderful panoramic hillock of Borgata Baudinet.
At this point, you can climb until you meet the road leading to the summer grazing land Mascarone and go back to the chapel of Olocco (following the asphalt road going down), or you can go ahead following the flat road up to Borgata Colletto, where you can enjoy a wonderful view of Valle Pesio. From here the road leads you to the last three villages (Burdei, Lavandin, Cavalet) and gets to S. Bartolomeo, where the itinerary ends.

Notes: it is recommended to bring your own car to S. Bartolomeo, or to carry out the return journey to Borgata Baudinet, as described above.
