Services and Itineraries for People with Disabilities in Parchi della Val di Cornia

Parchi della Val di Cornia S.p.A. is a company mainly consisting of public capital which was established in 1993 according to the will of the Municipalities of Val di Cornia (Campiglia Marittima, Piombino, San Vincenzo, Sassetta, and Suvereto) with the aim to enhance the archaeological and naturalistic values of this territory through safeguard and promotion:

  • Creation and management of welcome and accessibility services (visitor centers, experimental archaeology and environmental didactics centers, naturalistic and archaeological itineraries, museums and guided visits)
  • Creation and management of complementary services (bookshops, restaurants, hostels, parking areas, etc.)

The creation of entirely accessible structures, both buildings (ex. Museums, Visitor Centers, Welcome services) and Park areas, represents a typical feature of our work since the foundation of Parchi della Val di Cornia S.p.A.
As a consequence, several works have been carried out to give everyone the possibility to enjoy the cultural and natural beauties of this charming territory.

Moreover, the Mining Equipment and Miners Museums situated in the area of Pozzo Earle, as well as the train in Lanzi-Temperino Gallery, are accessible.

Sterpaia Coastal Park (Piombino)

All the seaside resorts along the eastern coast of Piombino/Sterpaia Park comply with accessibility criteria. In the central part of Sterpaia, near the refreshment point "Il Nano Verde" there is a protected itinerary to reach the sandy shore and there are accessible toilets. Moreover, the Park area has been provided with service equipment essential to guarantee a pleasant and comfortable stay. Out of the 8 blocks of toilets that have been recently built, 4 are accessible to disabled people in the following locations: "Carlappiano", "Sterpaia", "Mortelliccio", "Il Pino". Moreover, four wooden footboards have been built to enable small means with wheels (prams, wheelchairs) to cross the dune: they are adequately indicated by the road signs in loc. Perelli, Carlappiano, Sterpaia, Mortelliccio. Special net riddles have been connected to the footbridges giving thus the opportunity to reach the sea and, in loc. Carlappiano there is a wheelchair for anyone who may wish to have a bath.
