Adamello Brenta UNESCO Global Geopark at the Azores for the 14th European Geoparks Conference

Countdown has also begun for the International Conference on Global Geoparks, to be held in 2018 in Madonna di Campiglio

(Strembo, 13 Sep 17) From 7 to 9 September, President Joseph Masè and geologist Vajolet Masè represented Adamello Brenta UNESCO Global Geopark at the 14th European Geoparks Conference, held at Azores Geopark, Portugal.

UNESCO invited Adamello Brenta Park to the conference "GEOPARKS: PATHWAYS OF SUSTAINABLE TOURISM FOR DEVELOPMENT", to report on its management experience in two dedicated sessions. During the session on "Good Practices in Geoparks", President Masè illustrated the Park's qualified experience in sustainable mobility, whereas during the session on "Engaging Communities and Networking", Vajolet Masè presented the Local Shops Project, through which the Park has been creating a network for the distribution of its gadgets, by building partnerships with shop owners working within the municipalities of the protected area.

Being quite unordinary in the context of other protected areas' initiatives, these two projects especially elicited the audience's attention.

320 Geopark representatives from 45 countries, including Asian and Latin American ones, took part in the meeting and, during the final plenary session, countdown began for the 8th International Conference on UNESCO Global Geoparks, which will be hosted by Adamello Brenta Geopark. One year from now, from 8 to 14 September 2018, Madonna di Campiglio will be the prestigious venue of what can be defined as the most important and awaited conference in the field of geology; between 800 and 1000 delegates are expected to take part in the event, including specialists, practitioners, experts and representatives of global geoparks from all over the world.

There is still one year before the event but, considering its vast reach, organisation has been underway for a long time; together with the Tourism Office of Madonna di Campiglio-Pinzolo-Val Rendena, the Park is preparing a programme to meet the high expectations placed on the protected area which includes the legendary Brenta Dolomites, UNESCO World Heritage.
