The very recent Mining Museum has become in a few years one of the main tourist and cultural destinations in Aveto Regional Park and Liguria. Gambatesa Mine is one of the last working mines in Italy, and therefore represents the center of greatest mining interest in Val Graveglia.
In 2001, Gambatesa mine underwent a series of structural changes that have enabled its reconversion from industrial to cultural purposes, not only as far as its underground passages, but also as far as its several and particular equipment and buildings are concerned. Gambatesa has a large and free car park, where you can leave the coaches or your car.
Gambatesa mine houses a modern and functional Visitor Center that can welcome also the most careful and exacting visitor.
The presence of a bar-cold buffet with several tables, both indoor and on the panoramic terrace, gives the opportunity to organize and spend a pleasant day with any weather condition, having lunch with our drinks, toasts, and cold cuts or with your packed lunch.
During the summer, it is possible to use the several picnic areas and go along thematic trails: the botanic and naturalistic trail or the one dedicated to the structures and finds of mining interest.
However, the richness of the mining museum is represented by the considerable heritage of mining activity evidences and the mining context housing the visitor center, which gives the opportunity to observe the interior of working facilities that are usually closed to the public and to discover, through minerals and rocks, the history of our planet and its formation.
This visit won't leave not even the most exacting visitor cold. We will feel miners for a few hours, receiving detailed information to discover the secrets of the mountains, looking for traces of manganese as if we were old miners.
