The Aveto Park approved the Gambatesa Mine reopening project

The Gambatesa mine was Europe's largest manganese mine. It worked from 1876 to 2011. The museum activity, which started fifteen years ago, made Gambatesa become one of the most significant tourist attractions in eastern Liguria. Unfortunately, due to the suspension of the extraction activity, the reference regulatory framework changed, which led the Aveto Park (owner of the site) to stop the access for the visitors. Over these years the Park kept on working to reopen the site, and it committed itself to maintaining and improving the inside and outside structures, and to recovering the archaeological-mining heritage still needing to be safeguarded in view of a reopening.
By reopening the Mining Museum the Park hopes to also relaunch the cultural, tourist and economic field of the Graveglia Valley, historic mining headquarters and of the Aveto Park.
