The Gambatesa mine was Europe's largest manganese mine. It worked from 1876 to 2011, when it ceased mining. The museum activity, started in 2000, and initially taken care of by the mining company with its own miners, made Gambatesa become one of the most significant tourist attractions in central-eastern Liguria. It has started the cultural, tourist and economic revival of Val Graveglia, a historical mining area, as well as the entire Aveto Park.
Opening times:

Visits to the Gambatesa Mine are temporarily suspended.

The tender to entrust the management of the Gambatesa Mining Museum is currently underway, in compliance with the obligations of the Tenders Code and regional regulations. Hopefully, if the tender is successful, we can expect an opening within the first few months of the year.
