Sassello

Sassello, in the Middle Ages an industrial center famous for working iron, now is one of the liveliest villages in the hinterland and the first Italian Municipality to obtain the Orange Flag from the Italian Touring Club for its tourist and environmental quality.
The old town is divided between the XII century Bastia Soprana and the Bastia Sottana built by the Dorias in the 1400s, with frescoed buildings and baroque churches.
Here Chiara Luce Badano was born, lived and died in 1990: she was a member of the Focolare Movement and beatified in 2010. Since then her grave in the Sassello cemetery is a place of pilgrimage.
You can't miss a visit to Palazzo Perrando and the Assandri stone mill, a walk through the Deiva Forest, and a taste of local products, among which the famous amaretti and the delicious mushrooms.
