Discovering Nature - The Coast - The Inland

A new and updated tourist guide to discover the extraordinary features of Beigua Park – the largest protected area in Liguria – recognized in 2005 international geopark under UNESCO. A territory characterized by an extraordinary biodiversity where the rocky bastion of Beigua mountain group throws itself into the blue of the coast of Arenzano, Cogoleto, and Varazze. A regional protected area of great naturalistic value, known all over the world as a paradise for bird watchers because of the migration of diurnal birds of prey (above all Short-toed Eagle) and for the return, since a few years, of the Golden Eagle, together with Golden Owl, Common Rock Thrush, Common Whitethroat, and other eighty bird species. The wolf lives in the most inaccessible and concealed areas and, from the spurs facing the sea it is not unusual to sight the silhouette of the whales in the stretch of water in front of Varazze. A territory offering in a few kilometers characteristic flowers of the Mediterranean maquis or precious high-mountain wetlands witnessing far epochs in which ice and rocks used to fight their daily battle to shape the terrestrial surface. After a brief look to the ten Municipalities situated within Beigua Park (Arenzano, Campo Ligure, Cogoleto, Genova-Voltri, Masone, Rossiglione, Sassello, Stella, Tiglieto, Varazze), the guidebook focuses on the delicious foodstuffs belonging to the local tradition.
In the last pages, you will find some useful information to visit the territory of Beigua.
