• Come arrivare: dalla piazza di Sassello si scende verso Savona e appena passato il ponte sul rio Sbruggia si svolta a destra.

Itinerario di particolare interesse botanico e faunistico con possibilità di imbattersi in daini, caprioli, cinghiali e rapaci quali poiana e biancone.

Il sentiero si sviluppa su strada sterrata che parte nei pressi di una segheria dismessa e sale inizialmente in un bosco misto di latifoglie prevalentemente mesofile. Si notano specie quali acero campestre e di monte, carpino bianco ed orniello. Al bosco misto si alternano zone di conifere quali abete di Douglas e abete rosso.
Prima di giungere all’inizio vero e proprio dell’anello, è interessante fare una piccola digressione verso il castello Bellavista o Bigliati, affascinante costruzione ottocentesca posta tra grandi alberi di cedro e rovere. Usata fin dal XIII sec. come riserva forestale infatti, la Deiva conobbe diverse vicissitudini e nel 1800 venne acquisita dalla famiglia Bigliati che vi costruì il castello, sei case coloniche e che ne arricchì il patrimonio boschivo.
Riprendendo il sentiero si raggiunge in breve il bivio che determina l’inizio dell’anello: si prende a sinistra in piano attraverso una pineta a pino marittimo dove è anche possibile avvistare rapaci e, poco dopo, si arriva ad un punto panoramico da cui si può ammirare dall’alto l’abitato di Sassello.
La strada continua per un lungo tratto in falso piano in una vegetazione mista di roveri e pini marittimi e si oltrepassa un torrentello fino ad arrivare al punto di inversione del cammino. Da qui la strada comincia a scendere attraverso una zona ricca di dafne odorosa, endemismo caratteristico dei suoli serpentinitici.
La parte finale del percorso si sviluppa sul versante occidentale della Deiva in un rigoglioso bosco misto; scendendo ancora si guada un rio e aggirando il rilievo Sorite del Groppe si attraversa un bosco di grandi faggi seguito da un castagneto in cui crescono anche pini silvestri. Si prosegue fino ad incontrare la deviazione per la Casa Giumenta, interessante per la presenza di un antico essiccatoio con tetto in caratteristiche tegole dette “focaccini” e recentemente ristrutturato.
L’ultima parte del percorso che riporta alla fine dell’anello percorre un tratto scabro e roccioso con presenza di euforbia arborea, santoreggia e radi pini marittimi.

• Come arrivare: dalla piazza di Sassello si imbocca via Umberto I, si gira a sinistra in via dei Perrando dove si trovano le indicazioni per Bastia Soprana e M.te Beigua.

Itinerario dal sensibile dislivello e lunghezza che si sviluppa attraverso antichi nuclei rurali e suggestivi boschi di castagni e di faggi.

La strada costeggia il rio Sbruggia e nel punto in cui oltrepassa a destra il torrente si imbocca la mulattiera che porta ai ruderi di Bastia Soprana (453 m), antico fortilizio dei Doria. Dopo aver passato il rio Sasselletto, il sentiero si stacca da quello per la Bastia e sale ripidamente attraverso un bosco misto di castagni, pini e roveri: qui la mulattiera diviene strada forestale ed è doveroso seguire attentamente il segnavia per la presenza di numerosi bivi. Lungo questo tragitto ci si imbatte in antichi essiccatoi.
Successivamente si entra in una faggeta punteggiata da betulle e si raggiunge loc. Veirera Soprana (980 m) in un paesaggio di castagneti che si alternano ad aree prative. Da qui si continua su asfaltata prima a destra e poi a sinistra attraverso un castagneto finché il segnavia si affianca a quello del sentiero proveniente da Palo (due linee gialle orizzontali). In vista di Casa Laiolo si abbandona l’asfaltata per salire a destra sulla carrareccia che passa nei pressi di Punta Pragiroso (1150 m). Trascurando un sentiero segnato con due X gialle, si aggira ad ovest il monte Ermetta (1267, fonte) e si continua attraverso un dolce pendio pietroso costituito prevalentemente da serpentiniti fino ad arrivare al punto panoramico delle pendici ovest del Bric Veciri (1264 m). Qui l’itinerario confluisce nell’Alta Via dei Monti Liguri: si raggiunge in breve l’anticima del Beigua sormontata da una grossa croce laddove, proseguendo lungo la Via Crucis, si raggiunge il punto più alto del percorso (M.te Beigua, 1287 m).
Dal Beigua si ritorna sul medesimo sentiero al bivio presso il Bric Veciri e si scende dolcemente lungo praterie che si rarefanno lasciando il posto alle faggete presso loc. Costa del Giancardo (1000 m). Qui si abbandona l’AVML e lo spartiacque per seguire a destra il sentiero segnato con due triangoli gialli, si oltrepassa il fosso della Bandia e si giunge presso l’omonima casa (905 m): si scende ripidamente su sterrata fino a raggiungere Colla Bergnon (830 m) circondata da faggi maestosi.
Trascurando a destra il sentiero che porta al M.te Avzè, si prosegue in un castagneto, inframmezzato da aree prative (Colle Luvetto), che porta a Casa Galante (471 m). Si continua fino a Casa Verlia in prossimità della quale si torna su sentiero, ben segnato, che conduce a una strada prima sterrata e poi asfaltata: questa raggiunge loc. Colletto e di qui, in breve, si torna a Sassello.

• How to get there: from the square of Sassello descend towards Savona and, immediately after the bridge over rio Sbruggia turn right.

Particularly interesting itinerary from a botanical and faunistic point of view, with the possibility to sight fallow deer, deer, wild boars, and birds of prey like buzzards and short-toad eagles.

The path develops along a dirt road leaving near a sawmill in disuse and at the beginning climbs into a mixed wood of mainly mesophile broad-leaf trees. You can find species like field and sycamore maples, white hornbeams, and flowering ash trees. The mixed wood alternates with areas of conifers like Douglas and spruce firs.
Before reaching the real beginning of the ring-route, it is interesting to make a small detour towards the castle Bellavista or Bigliati, a fascinating 19th century building situated among big trees of cedar and sessile oaks. Used since the 13th century like a forest reserve, the Deiva was subject to several ups and downs and in the 19th century was bought by the Bigliati family which built the castle, six farmhouses, and enriched the wood heritage.
By following the path you will reach in a short time the junction marking the beginning of the ring-route: take it on the left along a flat stretch and through a maritime pine wood where it is also possible to sight birds of prey and, immediately after, you will get to a panoramic point, where you can enjoy from above the settlement of Sassello.
The road continues along a long stretch among a vegetation consisting of sessile oaks and maritime pines; go beyond a stream until you reach a point where you must change direction. From this point, the road begins to run downhill through an area rich in rose daphne, an endemic plant characteristic of the serpentinite soils.
The final part of the route develops on the western slope of the Deiva in a luxuriant mixed wood; by descending again ford a stream and go around the relief Sorite del Groppe; cross a wood of big beech trees followed by a chestnut tree wood where also Scotch pines grow. Go ahead until you meet the detour to Casa Giumenta, interesting for the presence of an ancient dryhouse whose roof is made of the characteristinc roofing-tiles called “focaccini” and which has been recently restored.
The last stretch of the itinerary leading back to the end of the ring-route goes along a rough and rocky route characterized by the presence of heather, savory, and sparse maritime pines.

• How to get there: from the square of Sassello take via Umberto I, turn left in via dei Perrando where you find the indications to Bastia Soprana and Mt. Beigua.

Itinerary with a considerable difference in height and length, developing throughout ancient rural nuclei and charming woods of chestnut trees and beech trees.

The road borders rio Sbruggia and, where it crosses the stream on the right, take the mule track leading to the ruins of Bastia Soprana (453 m), an ancient small fort of the Doria. After crossing rio Sasselletto, the path parts from the one leading to the Bastia and steeply climbs through a mixed wood of chestnut trees, pines, and sessile oaks: here the mule track becomes a forest road, and you should carefully follow the trail mark, since there are several junctions. Along this route you will see ancient dryhouses.
Afterwards, enter a beech tree wood scattered with birches, and reach loc. Veirera Soprana (980 m) in a landscape characterized by chestnut tree woods alternating with meadow areas. Continue along an asphalt road, on the right first and then on the left through a chestnut tree wood, until the trail mark is placed side by side to the one indicating the path coming from Palo (two horizontal yellow lines). Near Casa Laiolo leave the asphalt road and climb on the right along the carriage road passing near Punta Pragiroso (1150 m). Ignore a path signaled by two yellow X, go around Mt. Ermetta (1267, spring) in the west, and go ahead along a gentle slope rich in stones and mainly consisting of serpentinite until you reach the panoramic point of the western slopes of Bric Veciri (1264 m). Here the itinerary joins the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri: you can briefly reach the antipeak of Beigua with a big cross on it: following the Via Crucis you will reach the highest point of the route (Mt. Beigua, 1287 m).
From Beigua return to the same path at the junction near Bric Veciri and gently go down along grasslands gradually becoming less dense and giving way to the beech tree woods near loc. Costa del Giancardo (1000 m). Leave the AVML and the watershed to follow on the right the path signaled with two yellow triangles, go beyond the ditch of Bandia and reach the homonymous house (905 m): rapidly descend along a dirt road until you reach Colla Bergnon (830 m) surrounded by imposing beech trees.
Ignore the path on the right leading to Mt. Avzè, go ahead into a chestnut tree wood alternating with meadow areas (Colle Luvetto), leading to Casa Galante (471 m). Continue up to Casa Verlia near which you will go back to a well-signaled path leading first to a dirt road, and then to an asphalt road: the latter leads you to loc. Colletto. From here you can shortly go back to Sassello.
