Environmental Education Activities for Elementary, Middle, and Secondary Schools

The Environmental Education Projects of Parco Naturale delle Capanne di Marcarolo and Ecomuseo di Cascina Moglioni have been organized according to the guidelines provided by Regione Piemonte, Settore Pianificazione Aree Protette, in order to promote a sustainable and aware school tourism considering the environmental impact and respecting the territory and local culture; the aims of the following educational proposals are:

  • contributing to the diffusion of sustainable tourism;
  • promoting the idea that sustainable tourism is an educational resource;
  • considering school trips as useful educational instruments to develop research activities and to better understand the relation person/environment/society;

Another aspect of environmental sustainability characterizing the visits will be the use of premises - where indoor activities will take place - that are independent as far as energy is concerned thanks to the use of photovoltaic panels, solar panels, and a low-emission wood boiler exploiting the timber resource offered by the Park. The environmental education activities are dedicated to Elementary, Middle, and Secondary Schools: themes and programs will be adapted according to the age and needs of the pupils with different methodologies.
The educational projects include the following routes (Italian text):

  1. Capanne di Marcarolo Nature Park
  2. Cascina Moglioni Ecomuseum
  3. The Benedicta
  4. The Cheese of Capanne
  5. Following the Steps of the Man who Planted Trees
  6. Orienteering
  7. Two Days in the Park and in the Ecomuseum

These projects aim at providing students new ideas to reflect on environmental issues, focusing on the territory, history, and local traditions.
On demand, we will send to the interested schools a detailed and specific program. Each project consists of a theoretical part during which the issues agreed in advance will be considered, and a "workshop" with practical activities directly involving the pupils. Schools have also the possibility to ask for an introductory meeting to hold in the classroom, lasting two hours.
