Accessible Naturalistic Trail

At the foot of Mt. Orsaro and Mt. Braiola there is the peat bog of Lagdei, the last evidence of an ancient glacial lake. In the wet grassland it is possible to find wild orchids like Dactylorhiza fuchsii and Coeloglossum viride. At the end of June you can see the white feathers of cotton grass, while in August the blue flowers of the willowleaf gentian dominate. Several butterflies, colored grasshoppers, and iridescent beetles choose to live in the peat bog.

Around the peat bog of Lagdei a new trail, about 400 m long, crosses the most interesting environments rich in animal and vegetal species. Developing on a flat ground, with long stretches of wooden pilework, the trail is accessible to everyone. It is completed by five interactive panels and twelve illustrated panels dealing with the evolution of the peat bog and the main species populating it.
An exhibit on the peat bog has been organized in the Park info point, in the mountain hut near the departure point of the trail.

In the cold waters of the streams running across the plain there is the brown trout and it is not difficult to sight the dipper. Colored dragonflies dart in the air looking for food, while the gerrids skate on the surface of the pond.
The surrounding woods are populated by roe deer, foxes, and squirrels; the chaffinch, the coal tit, and the bullfinch build their nest here. If you are lucky, you may also sight the Golden Eagle flying over your heads.

The Cycling Route of the Parco dei Cento Laghi consists of 150 km of cycling paths for mountain-bikes, all well-signaled.
Besides being a connection between the mountain areas of Reggio-Emilia and Toscana, the Ciclopista crosses the Park from the East to the West, becoming a confluence for the trekking routes from the ridge and for the three ring-routes on the northern slope of the Park, joining then the cycling routes climbing from the hills of Parma towards the Apennine chain. The routes forming the Ciclopista are four, a main linear route and three ring-routes. The main route (light green signs) crosses the Park from the East to the West, and precisely from the Lagastrello Pass to the Cirone Pass, for a length of about 40 km.
A ring-route, called delle Corti dei Monti, develops around the country wards of Monchio delle Corti for a total length of 34 km (light blue). The Percorso del Ticchiano (orange) is 41 km long and develops along a very interesting area of the Park, the Val Bratica. The third ring-route, called Percorso dei Lagoni, is more than 40 km long and allows cyclists to visit the interesting natural points of the Alta Val Parma, in the Town of Corniglio. In order to use the routes safely, it is advisable to ask for information by the seat of the Park to be updated about the condition of the routes and their general accessibility, and to organize and book guided excursions with the teachers of the "Scuola Italiana di MountainBike" (S.I.M.B) coordinating the tourist activities by bike in the Park. To look at the map of the routes online, please visit the web site of the A.S. Torrechiara.

It is available (4,00 Euros) the precious Cartoguida della Ciclopista with a detailed cartography, scale 1:25.000, and the technical card of each suggested Route.

Itineraries in Val Bratica

The three itineraries develop in one of the least known and most charming areas of the Park, Val Bratica, a narrow and wild valley between the municipalities of Monchio delle Corti and Corniglio.
The different levels of difficulty, the richness in themes, and the variety of environments are features meeting the needs of all our potential visitors: hikers, groups of students, literature-loving people...
The itinerary dedicated to “agriculture” is not very long, and it is the ideal route for school trips and environmental education activities in the open air through which young people will have the opportunity to know and draw themselves nearer to the disappeared "agricultural world" which was based on the products obtained by the chestnut tree and by its precious fruit.
The second itinerary, dedicated to “culture”, will be extremely short and will enable visitors to "read" the landscape and the territory through the works of Attilio Bertolucci, one of the most important Italian contemporary poets: he was born in these places and spent here a period of his life, writing part of his literary production.
The longest itinerary (dedicated to hikers) focuses on “nature”, and will give visitors the opportunity to know more about the features of the local natural environment (flora, fauna, geology…).
Along the routes there are descriptive and informative panels and notice boards, pathsigns, and stop areas equipped with tables and benches.

A useful brochure with the map of the routes and some detail cards has been edited and is on sale for 1,00 Euro.
