The Centre is located inside the S. Michele Abbey.

The Montescaglioso Environmental Education Centre is a structure created by the Municipality of Montescaglioso and the Basilicata Region. Its activities are managed by CooperAttiva soc. coop. and implemented together with the Murgia Materana Park.

The Centre is approved by the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security in the national In.F.E.A. (Informazione, Formazione ed Educazione Ambientale - Information, Training and Environmental Education) network. It is recognised by the Basilicata Region with the Decree of the Regional Executive no. 959 dated 29 May 2002 and the Decree of the Regional Executive no. 492 dated 2 August 2002, published in the Official Bulletin of the Region no. 60/2002 and it is also an important unit of the R.EDU.S (Sistema Regionale per l'Educazione alla Sostenibilità - Regional System for Education for Sustainability).
