Urged by the Park Authority, the researcher Mario Tommaselli has collected, photographed, and described more or less important masserie, jazzi, and casini scattered throughout the countryside of Matera in a volume of over 300 pages rich in topographic maps, drawings, color and black and white photos. Rural buildings that have lost their original functions and that, because of abandonment and negligence, risk to disappear. With this volume, the Park Authority aims at sensitizing readers and, above all, the ruling class to the safeguard of such a priceless architectural, urban, historical, and social heritage that literally risks to collapse.
