Fortification ruins on Mt. Cinto

Ruins of the fortification on Mt. Cinto

Because of their cone shape and their position, overlooking the plains, Colli Euganei were dotted with religious settlements and military fortifications.

On top of the hill, not visible from the plain and hidden among the trees, there are the ruins of an old fortalice. The small, oval-shaped castle had walls around it and, on its southern side, a buttress. It probably belonged to a system of fortifications, and was connected with a second castle that rose up in the spot of today's church of Cinto Euganeo; it was strategically important to control accesses from the plain to the Colli's western area.
