Municipality of Scarlino
Medieval village situated on the central spurs of Mount d'Alma.
The historical village extends along a ridge dominated by a rock, maybe dating back to the 10th century, where one can admire a wide panorama on the Pecora plain and on the Gulf of Follonica.
The origin of the name dates back its birth to the 5th century AD.

Municipality of Roccastrada
The main town of one of Italy's widest municipalities (28,000 hectares) keeps the structure of a medieval village lying on the ridge of an upland, which is intensely cultivated. In the old-town center one finds the beautiful church dedicated to St. Nicholas dating back to the 13th century. In the extended area of the 19th century the "Nuovo Centro" houses the city hall, the library, the Teatro dei Concordi.

Municipality of Monterotondo Marittimo
It is a medieval village situated on a mountain pass 540 m above sea level, which follows the ring-shaped direction of the old castle's walls that is completely included among the houses.
The location was particularly strategical from the military perspective, because it made the control of the river Cornia, of the stream Milia and of the Pavone possible.

Municipality of Montieri
Montieri is the main mining castle in Tuscany. It was built in the 11th century, and it still keeps the raised part of the castle that was built in the 12th century. The village lies in the northern side of the mount of the same name, at an altitude of about 700 meters, and it is surrounded by chestnut, oak and beech forests.

Municipality of Massa Marittima
Massa was established between the 8th and the 9th century AD. The meaning of the name "Massa" regarded the ownership of the land during the Roman age, and the small feudal estates during the Lombardic age.

The village of plain medieval origin lies on a terrace at an altitude of 273 m above sea level. Gavorrano's history began around the 9th century.
