Parco Naturale Regionale Dune Costiere da Torre Canne a Torre San Leonardo

The Senatore Cappelli durum wheat variety is obtained from crossbreeds dating back to the beginning of the last century; today it is cultivated with organic methods within the arable lands of the "masserie" of the Park. The whole production chain is organic.
The Senatore Cappelli variety, with the typical black hairs of brush, was genetically selected by Nazareno Strampelli in 1915; it was named after the marquis from the Abruzzi Raffaele Cappelli who, appointed senator in the early 1900, promoted in Capitanata an agricultural reform which led to distinguish soft wheat from durum wheat.
