The route leaves from the houses of Pietracannone (1,150m) on the road Mareneve and climbs along a "trazzera" preserving the ancient lava ground. Along this mule track, there is one of the most beautiful "tacche della neve", a large rectangular pit where the snow was preserved and pressed: during the summer, it was then delivered with the mules to the local villages. Continuing your climbing, after meeting the 1971 lava flow, you reach a forest track and Paternò Castello Mountain Hut.
