The Resurgences

Resurgences

The river Sile, about 95 km long, is a resurgence watercourse. The area of resurgences, despite the considerable changes it has undergone over the centuries, includes characteristic natural elements, like: springs ("fontanassi"), small lakes and marshy areas, peat bogs, and a thick network of watercourses. Besides the characteristic vegetation of the wet meadows and the resurgence veins (Carex, Cirsium, Caltha palustris, Iris pseudacorus), there are often isolated trees and small forests, the relicts of a past covering characterized by the hygrophilous facies of the plain forest consisting of poplars, willows, alders, oaks, elms, maples, etc.

The natural environments where the peat usually deposits are called "peat bogs".
