The Documentation Center of River Nera Protected Area was born in Collestatte thanks to the contribution of C.I.A.V (Valnerina Environment Initiative Center). It houses the museum sections dedicated to ornithology and mycology.
Planned by the Park Authority, the Center is situated in the halls of Palazzo Magalotti, and is the first example of naturalistic museum in the Province.

Situated on two floors, it houses a rich collection of stuffed birds representing both local and Italian species: among them, the Eurasian Tawny Owl with its strange pigmentation. Moreover, it houses some plaster casts of the most widespread mushroom species, edible and not, whose shape and size you can appreciate thanks to the meticulousness and scientific rigor of the representation.

Moreover, 4 dioramas give the opportunity to discover the most characteristic environments of the protected area: the rocky environment with the Peregrine and the Eurasian Crag Martin building their nest in cavities and ravines; the stretch of river Nera crossing the plain between Arrone and Marmore Waterfall, with a couple of Mallards and a Moorhen, frightened by the visitors; a stage of life in the forest, with the hunting of the Sparrow Hawk; and a view of a loft in Torreorsina facing the waterfalls, where a Barn Owl is nesting.

The Center has a didactic section dedicated to environmental education for children, involved in guided visits and workshops focusing on games and manual skills.
