Oratorio of St. Michele Pelago

The 17th-century oratorio of St. Michele Pelago dominates the Scoltenna valley, not far from Pievepelago. The construction maintains Romanesque evidence on the outer apse, built with coarse blocks of sandstone and on which stand out anthropomorphic figures and probably pagan symbols that were to belong to a pre-existing Temple of the Roman era: the structure is covered at the top by a toothframe supported by plant elements, animals and small human heads carved inside thirteen little shelves (partly replaced).
