Farmsteads

The Groane and Brughiera Briantea Park, especially in its northernmost part, is dotted with farmsteads that are little treasure troves of agricultural architecture from past centuries to be discovered, one by one.
There are dozens of them, some well preserved and even inhabited, others less so. In Meda alone, to give just one example, more than 20 have been surveyed, including Belgora Farmstead, representative of a type of rational agricultural built-up area that was once very common in this countryside, with high porticoes in the centre of the building where the farmers lived, while the stable and barns were located to the sides of the large courtyard. Another one is the Colombera Farmstead, built in the early 18th century as a hunting lodge, that was one of the most significant farmsteads in the area and a fine example of ancient rural constructions. The farmstead, located on the edge of the morainic plateau of the Brughiera, dominates the large "Cavallina" plateau.
