Forest Ecosystem Interpretation Center

Specialties: Woodlands and Forests
22072 Cermenate (CO)
Municipality: Cermenate
Region: Lombardia

The Forest Ecosystem Interpretation Center is a place dedicated to the understanding of the ecological balances of the forest environment. The Center is situated in a characteristic bird hunting structure called roccolo (meaning "bird snare"), that has been recovered by Consorzio Parco del Lura. In the past, bird hunting was not practiced with firearms, but with these complex structures. A bird snare consists of a horseshoe-shaped double row of trees facing the valley and the so-called casello, a little tower surrounded by climbing plants or trees concealing the structure, built in order to have a 360° view.
Beside the historical-architectural value of the structure and the possibility it gives to carry out observation activities in the naturalistic context of the area, the Forest Ecosystem Interpretation Center is a potential attraction for hikers, groups, and schools, since it houses reconstructions of natural environments in the different seasons (dioramas), highlighting charming and particular features of the local wildlife that can enrich a walk in the Park.
Opening times: Thanks to the collaboration of Guardie Ecologiche Volontarie of the Province of Como, the Visitor Centers are open from May to September (on one Sunday of the month): 9.00 a.m. - 5.00 p.m.
