Horseback trails and riding in the Madonie Park

  • Trail Conditions: On horseback

The equestrian centres in the Madonie Park and the farmhouses equipped with riding stables allow you to ride through the park.
The "horseback trails" of the Madonie Park are ancient nature trails and old mule tracks that wind their way through the most beautiful and unspoilt areas of Sicily. Riding along the crests of the mountains, travelling slowly, lulled by the animal's gait, along inaccessible paths that can only be discovered by riding for tens of kilometres and appreciating the natural, artistic, cultural and enogastronomic beauty of the hinterland. Horseback trails to discover the Park's biodiversity with its centuries-old downy oaks, or extraordinary and unique places such as Piano Pomo, Pizzo Canna, Madonna dell'Alto Vallone, and Madonna degli Angeli among hollies and Sicilian firs. There are also the medieval castle, such as that of Castelbuono, the old paper mill, the "Martinetto", the old ironworks where bells were cast, and the suggestive Gole di Tiberio, a Unesco Geopark site on the river Pollina in the San Mauro Castelverde area, where you can discover the traditions of the shepherds along the route and watch the cheese-making process, the transformation of milk into cheese, and of course you can taste the products.
