Trees for Biodiversity

The presence of Osmoderma eremita, a species with "priority" protection included in the Habitat Directive, in the old oaks of Viale dei Roveri made it necessary to protect these centuries-old trees. However, the advanced state of senescence of some specimens of English oaks no longer guaranteed an acceptable level of safety to allow the passage of the public along the majestic Avenue. The Conservation Measures drawn up by the European Community require the maintenance and conservation of large-sized trees housing the xylophagous beetles, that is, those that feed on wood (hermit beetle, oak beetle, kite), in order to guarantee perpetuation over time suitable habitats for completing the biological cycle of these insects.
