The Mills of the Naviglio

The huge channel system in the territory around river Mincio, which was started in the Roman period, was developed by Pitentino, and was made fully efficient under the rule of Gonzaga, aimed at giving back to agriculture and urban settlement the largest possible surface area, snatching it away from the seasonal floors and recovering unhealthy areas through reclamation measures.
