Trail no. 1: Bocca del lupo

  • Trail Conditions: On foot
  • Interest: Flora, Wildlife, Hystory
  • Duration: 3 hour/s
  • Difficulty Level: easy
  • Difference in height: 120m

This trail easily develops along municipal roads and short stretches of the Provincial Panoramic road, for a walking time of about three hours. It leaves from the beginning of the road San Bartolo, where a fresco (drawn by prof. Paolo Castellani on behalf of the Park Authority) represents, as in a 17th century map, the territorial aspects and the historical – architectural features of the area. Here you can park the car and take the pedestrian route.
As you climb towards the Provincial road, the view opens over Pesaro. After the Center of Environmental Technologies managed by the Province, the itinerary has been completed with didactic botanic labels illustrating about forty arboreal and shrub species. You will walk always at the shadow, on the right, of the private park of Villa Imperiale, a wonderful example of architecture from the Renaissance period. Along the way, you will meet three different typologies of flora: the most natural one, including the rough bindweed, the elm, the field maple, the common hawthorn, the big sessile oaks, the asparagus, the common madder, the rose of St. John, etc.; the vegetation linked to the presence of farmers, like the mulberry, the olive tree, the fig; finally, the plants linked to the historical presence of villas, that were decorated with mainly evergreen exotic specimens like the cypress, the Stone pine, the ilex, the maritime pine, the Aleppo pine, and so on. Farther on, at the confluence of Strada Bocca del Lupo with Via dell'Altarello, the view opens on the harmonious countryside, still rich in separation hedges, mainly consisting of tamarisk and Christ's thorn. You will reach the Provincial Panoramic road: cross it and go ahead along an ancient municipal road now reconquered by nature. Panoramic sea views open in S.Marina Alta, you can reach with a specific detour and, afterwards, returning on your steps, you will reach Piazzale Hermitage, enjoying a great view over the Adriatic Sea and the cliff which reminds, with its farmhouses, when it was cultivated up to the beach. Then head towards the lighthouse, Villa Imperiale, and go downhill towards the departure point. Without a doubt, it is an itinerary giving the opportunity to grasp the features more linked to the activities and presence of man, in this section of the Park harmoniously integrated with nature.
