Trail no. 2: The Road of the Marina

  • Trail Conditions: On foot
  • Interest: Flora, Wildlife, Geology, Panorama
  • Duration: 2 hour/s
  • Difficulty Level: easy
  • Difference in height: 160m

The trail can be divided into two parts: the first one, leaving from loc. "Le Logge", represents an old short cut to reach the town of Fiorenzuola di Focara, and gives the opportunity to quickly pass from a urban environment to a natural environment rich in silence and peacefulness.
Once you get to Fiorenzuola di Focara - a small historical town preserving a number of evidences of its medieval origins - in a few minutes you can go along the "Trail of Love", recently restored by the Municipality and the Circoscrizione: from it, you can enjoy a wonderful sea view.
After visiting the town, the second part of the trail leaves: it leads down to the sea along an asphalt road closed to the traffic, comfortable and with great views on the cliff. Cross an area interested by reforestation activities in the 1960s, with black pines, mountain maples, and cypresses. Along the route it is possible to discover the signs of the presence of ancient cultivation activities (fruit trees and vineyards) and you can closely observe parts of the cliff showing the layers of clay and sandstone forming the whole system of hills sheer above the sea. In 10-15 minutes you can reach the beach, a recent result of the raising of the reefs that have been almost completely submerged in other places. In the small beach there are some plants of the psammophilous flora. The characteristic vegetation of the cliff includes canebrake and Spanish broom, from where black poplars and willows emerge. When you are on the beach, you can still go ahead northwards for a few hundred meters: here you will see the characteristic "cogoli", sandstones rounded off in different shapes.
