Parco Naturale del Monte Tre Denti - Freidour

Ravera - Fodarì - Prà l'Abbà - Colle Sperina - Monte Freidour - Colle Aragno - Tre Denti - Ravera o Bastianoni

  • Trail Conditions: On foot
  • Duration: 6 hour/s
  • Length: 12 km
  • Difference in height: 900m

This wonderful and long itinerary (over 12 kilometers with a maximum difference in height of 900 meters and a walking time of about 6 hours) gives the opportunity to grasp all the important natural aspects of the valley by going along trails, old mule tracks, and forest tracks avoiding the traffic of the ordinary roads. From location Ravera take an easy trail leading to location Trancera at the end of a large "cambered road" and here take an old trail leading to all the highest destinations. The rhododendrons will become abundant and, after a turn, you will get to a small plateau called Fodarì, where you will enjoy a wide view over upper Val Romarolo and Mt. Cristetto. Not very far, at the shadow of a beech wood, the trail meets another trail coming from Bastianoni and, turning right also at the second junction, you will gradually reach the head of the ravine. Going ahead along the large and gently climbing forest track, you will finally get to Prà l'Abbà, the most important mountain crossroads of the area, once a grassland covered with bilberries and wild heather, and today a charming conifer wood. After resting for a while, you can continue your trip along the ridge leading to Colle Aragno: here the landscape is characterized by gentle morphologies on the slope of Cumiana, also suitable for large groups, while the slope of Pinerolo is a very appreciated and busy practice wall. This route does not only offer landscape and naturalistic beauties, but it also gives the opportunity to touch the highest mountain of the Park (Mt. Sperino at 1,450 m) and, with another effort, Mt. Freidour, while, taking a detour, you can reach the depression deriving from the crash of an English military plane occurred during World War II. From the top of the Mountain, where the monument built in memory of the English aviators rises, if you are lucky and the visibility is good, you will enjoy a 360° panorama over the plain of Piedmont and the surrounding alpine chain.

From the summit of Freidour, with a pleasant walk characterized by ups and downs, you can reach Colle Aragno and, after several zigzags, you will reach a crossroads and you may decide whether climbing the trail leading to Tre Denti or continuing the descent towards Pian Conca Asciutta (Comba suita) where a trail leads to the springs of Chisola (Fontana del Pieu). Going ahead, you can descend to the crossroads situated a few meters before Fodarì, and from here you can go back to the departure point (Ravera), or go ahead reaching in a few minutes Sella di Bastianoni.
