Enchanting Territory over the Gulf of La Spezia

Where in Italy Parco Naturale Regionale di Montemarcello-Magra
From the peak of the Caprione promontory, which is surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, you can enjoy a breathtaking view over the gulf of La Spezia in the West and over the fertile plain of the river Magra in the East. The Romans founded in this territory the settlement of Luni. The fluvial area is characterized both from cultivation and wetlands where aquatic birds nest, and endangered areas. The Park was born by the fusion the pre-existing fluvial park with the protected area of Montemarcello, as a requalification experiment of degraded areas. The most intact fluvial stretch is the one regarding the river Vara, a tributary of the river Magra. The valley is rich in historical centers and castles as well as in ancient water mills.
