An ecological corridor of primary importance
The river Serio, ecological corridor of primary importance, is part of the rich system comprising the streams and the thick artificial water network which develops within the built-up area: this water system connects both agricultural areas to public green areas and parts of the territory to the sides of the belt at the foot of the mountain, that is fragile ecosystems of environmental and landscape significance to be protected. These places not only meet the need to re-establish an efficient ecological network, but they also fulfill the goal of the Local Park to give continuity to both the Regional Park "Colli di Bergamo" and the recently founded P.L.I.S. "Serio Nord". Furthermore, some areas are partially provided with structures, bicycle paths in particular, connecting them with the urban green system of each municipality, and they represent a significant opportunity to meet the citizens' needs of amusement.
