Parco Nazionale Appennino Tosco-Emiliano

The fragmentary nature of historical sources prevents us from being sure about the date of construction of this fortress, which represented a well-equipped stronghold for the defence of the upper Secchia valley. Since it belonged to the church, in the 11th century the fortress was chosen as residence for the dean, and garrison for the soldiers posted by the bishop of Reggio.
