“Deep Apennine” and Attilio Bertolucci’s home

The walls of the houses in the quiet village of Casarola (near Monchio on the Parma Apennine) bear excerpts from the poems that Attilio Bertolucci dedicated to his home soil and to the Apennine: an itinerary of stone pages narrating the courtyards of Monchio and the springs of the Cinghio river, the "cherry tree house" and the "uphill road" among the chestnut trees, from which distant valleys look "blue like the years that time and space set apart".
