Parco Nazionale Appennino Tosco-Emiliano

Along the province road of Passo delle Radici, on the historical Modena-Lucca axis, which was the ancient route of pilgrims and wanderers heading to San Pellegrino. The gateway opens before the village of Sassorosso, a small medieval town that looks as if sprung out of a legend, set in the mountain's rough, red limestone. A natural balcony with a view on the massif of Pania di Corfino, with its rocky faces and ancient pasturelands, and the white range of the Apuan Alps in front of it.

We are at the entrance of the Corfino valley, an ancient landscape rich in rare speleological features, deeply dug by the river, one of the most evocative places in Garfagnana.
