An innovative didactic and environmental education space
07024 Isola di Caprera (SS)
Municipality: La Maddalena
Created within the Project ReTraParc (Rete Transfrontaliera di Parchi – Park Transfrontier Network), the workshop is situated in the first warehouse of the structure of Stagnali: the strategic purpose of this new area at the visitors' disposal inside the CEA is to represent a permanent reference point for local environmental education planning and, at the same time, to create, over the years, a strong point within didactic tourism for Caprera Island. The new structure of the CEA represents – within the broader natural context of Caprera, that can be considered an "outdoor workshop" – an efficient combination between a natural classroom and a classroom-workshop equipped with the most modern and efficient instruments of analysis, monitoring, and preservation of the marine biodiversity characterizing the Park: not only screens, boards, multimedia corners, but also nautical equipment, underwater cameras, microscopes, and stereoscopes are at the disposal of anyone who will decide to lay the foundations for an effective knowledge of the marine, terrestrial, and wetland biological diversity living within the borders of the Archipelago.
The Knowledge Workshop completes the didactic proposals offered through the other services organized by the Park Authority within the CEA: the Geo-Mineralogical Museum, the Museum of the Sea, and the Dolphin Research Center, enriching the didactic proposal of Caprera Island, represented by Compendio Garibaldino and Garibaldi National Museum, soon to be completed at Forte Arbuticci. The whole proposal aims at enhancing Caprera Island within a context of sustainable tourist development focusing on its environmental and cultural values. Last but not least, the workshop aims at creating a space for an exchange of different experiences inside the CEA and among all the actors operating in Caprera to activate synergies within the sustainable management of the whole heritage of the island.
An essential didactic instrument of the new workshop are the so-called "Quaderni della conoscenza" (Knowledge Notebooks) elaborated by the Department of Botanical, Ecological, and Geological Science of the University of Sassari, that will become the reference didactic instruments for all the workshops organized within the network. The Quaderni, edited by experts in the field, represent an exhaustive digest dedicated to the knowledge of biodiversity.
