On foot in the historical town center
- Column dedicated to Garibaldi (Cala Gavetta)
It was put up on 4th July 1907 to celebrate the first centenary since the birth of Giuseppe Garibaldi. The Committee for celebrations in La Maddalena assigned various tasks: Prof. Vizotto planned the column, Mr Attilio Grondona, the owner of the quarries in Cala Francese, gave the granite which was necessary for the column, Contr'Ammiraglio Bianco supplied the right means for the works, Mr Pietro Frau supervised the works free of charge, Mr Bastianelli melted the medallion which was put on the column afterwards. This was moulded by the sculptor Gallori. Moreover, the writer Sebastiano Satta delivered the inaugural address. Lastly, S. M. Vittorio Emanuele lll was the first supporter of the project, also from an economic point of view.
- Town Hall
It was built between 1903 and 1906 in the area that once was called "piazza degli olmi" (elm square) next to the market. A wall-plaque in the entrance-hall reminds visitors of the letter written on 23rd November 1849 by Giuseppe Garibaldi to Nicolao Susini, the major of La Maddalena.
- Bust of Maggior "Leggero"
The bust of Giovanni Battista Culiolo was put up in 1961 by the sculptor Ugo Mariangeli (under the aegis of "Italia 61 "). Culiolo was a Garibaldian hero, he reminds the visitors of the heroic exploits of the mythical "Maggior Leggero", a staunch friend of Garibaldi. The bust was given by Associazione Reduci e Veterani Garibaldini (Association of Garibaldian veterans).
Leggero went into exile to La Maddalena with Garibaldi (1849). He spent the last years of his life on the island. He died there in 1871.
- Bust of Anita Garibaldi
It was put up in 1934 in "Parco della Musica" (Music park)(piazza Umberto I), to do as donna Costanza wishes. She was widow of Ricciotti, Garibaldi and Anita's son.

On foot in the historical town center
- Town Hall
In the council-chamber it is possible to see the flag owned by the Millelire family which was carried in many fights. This flag was given to the Town of La Maddalena by the heirs of the family. In the same chamber it is possible to see the portraits of those who earned a gold medal in La Maddalena during several fights. Visitors can also see a bomb dropped by Napoleone during the fight in 1793.
- Real Navi quartier
The fortress of S. Andrea was put up in 1793 to protect the inhabitants of the island against the fight between Gallo-Corsi (people from Corsica) and Sardi (Sardinian people). Here a labarum carries the words per Dio e per il Re Vincere o Morire (to live or to die for God and for the King). The fortress was also used as prison. It fell into disuse in the following centuries.
- Parish church
It was planned by engineer Cochis in 1779 and was finished in 1831 thanks to the help of the population. The high altar was given by Baron Giorgio Des Geneys, commander of the Regia Marina sarda (Sardinian Royal Navy). In a chapel on the left visitors can see the candlesticks and the crucifix given to parish priest Biancareddu by H. Nelson during his stay on the archipelago (1803-1805).
- Millelire House
Agostino Millelire, Domenico's brother, lived in via Montebello (a wall-plaque signals it). He was the governor of the Isole Intermedie (Middle islands). In via Vittorio Emanuele visitors can find Domenico Millelire's house, the first one who earned a gold medal in the Regia Marina Sarda.

Naturalistic Trails

|
Spending some hours walking along a trail is without a doubt the best way to develop the knowledge of a territory.
It is a knowledge regarding the various aspects of the environment surrounding us.
The Archipelago of La Maddalena is rich in potentialities which have not been exploited yet and that can be enhanced both by the visitors and by the subjects that are in some ways involved in the management of the environment. "Environment" which does not only include rocks, plants, and wildlife living in a given area, but also the human beings which, with their work, have contributed to characterize a territory, making it particular.
