Surrounded by the intense green of the ilex woodland, clutched at a calcareous wall, and higher than the town, as if to protect it from above: it is the Rupestral Sanctuary of Martyr San Mauro. The sanctuary is situated in the south-east of Mt. Chianello summit and dominates Capizzo, a tiny country hamlet of Magliano Vetere. The trail leading to the chapel develops along a route interested, every year on 11th July, in the morning, by the characteristic procession during which the local people bring the statue of the Saint to the Sanctuary.
During the climbing stage, here and there the ilex woodland gives way to panoramic views over the upper valley of the river Alento, giving the opportunity to transversally observe the slopes of Mt. Chianello, perfectly straight and originated in the Glacial Ages of the Quaternary period, and views from below of the sanctuary clutched at the homonymous cliff. The itinerary can be longer, with a tour to the wonderful ridges of the mountain chain and visit to the rupestral chapel of Santa Lucia in Magliano Vetere.
