The trail enters the village of Vernazza, goes across the main street and starts ascending along an alley above the church of Saint Margaret of Antioch (14th century). It climbs steeply up the hill among olive groves and vineyards, running along the valley of the stream Riolo and Costa Messorano. The trail then continues across the valley of Cravarla and Costa Linaro, where the terraces has been entirely colonized by Mediterranean scrub. Once arrived in the valley of Acquapendente, the landscape changes to vineyards and olive and citrus groves. Closer to the village of Monterosso the citrus groves are enclosed by the characteristic stone walls. The trail then overpasses the rocky spur of Punta Corone before reaching the village.
