E ancora coltivi tradizionali a vigne e ulivi fino all'Eremo della Maddalena.

June 24th, an inspection with Director Patrizio Scarpellini and the technical department of the Park to verify the traversability and rediscover new stretches of the Cinque Terre Park's trail network, which has about 120 km of hiking trails. All the variety of the Cinque Terre natural environment in just a few kilometers, on a loop route starting from the old village of Monterosso and arriving at Fegina (Difficulty Level: E - Hiking Distance: 8,6 km Total Elevation: 509 m).

It starts by walking between imposing dry stone walls and walls with lime mortar that enclose ancient lemon gardens, lapped by the waters of the Morione stream from which the valley takes its name. Just a short walk up is enough to find the cool shade of holm oaks, cork oaks, chestnuts and strawberry trees. And then traditional cultivations, with vineyards and olive trees, up to the Hermitage of St. Mary Magdalene.

Then on trail n. 591 from Colla di Gritta towards Punta Mesco you walk along the mountain spine. Along the ridge the rocks recount history. Up to the promontory of Mesco we can observe a section of what in the Jurassic period was an ocean, the Tetide: first we find magmatic rocks gabbro and serpentinite, then shale and sandstone of Gottero that, on Mesco, appeared in strong layers and cliffs.

The landscape becomes lunar, among the colors of the Mediterranean scrub there are junipers, myrtles, euphorbia and helichrysum. To one side the Cinque Terre coastline and to the other, Levanto to Portofino. An arcade of strawberry trees leads to the views on the promontory and the entrancing atmosphere of the Hermitage of Sant'Antonio, surrounded by holm oaks. The return section is all downhill on SVA/590 to the beaches of Fegina.
