The Park Planetary

A permanent structure dedicated to astronomy for educational activities and promotion

Specialties: Astronomy
52017 Pratovecchio Stia (AR)
Municipality: Pratovecchio Stia
Region: Toscana

The Planetary, model Galileo III built by Officine Galileo from Florence, has been used by the Science Museum in Florence and has been given by the museum itself to the National Park, which has transformed it into the main instrument for the creation of a center dedicated to educational activities and promotion of astronomy.

The Planetary represents the sky vault in a room in the same way we see it in the open air, in a place far from the disturbing lights of the city.
Thanks to this instrument, visitors can recognize the various constellations, the main movements of the stars, the moon, the sun, and the planets, and will learn to orient themselves with the stars.

Activities of the Planetary:

  • Nights dedicated to astronomy
  • Astronomy courses
  • Educational activities for schools
  • Exhibits, meetings, and conferences on astronomy
