Itineraries

Nature Trails

They are signaled itineraries which, with the help of a brochure and some signals on the ground, give the visitor the opportunity to learn something about the environment and the local realities. At the moment, you can find them only on the Piedmont slope, but they will be soon prepared also on the Valle d'Aosta slope.

Noasca

Vallone del Roc
Noasca (Valle Orco)

The "sentiero natura del Roc", a lateral valley of the Valle Orco, develops in an environment where the centuries-old presence of man has left precious historical evidences, like the quarters, the woods, the shape of the fields, and the terracing.
Moreover, the elements of the natural landscape, such as fauna, flora, geological formations protected by the Park offer interesting learning opportunities. The itinerary follows a well-signaled path leaving upstream from Noasca and arriving - through a ring-route - at the country ward Pianchetti. The average length of time is of 3 hours.

Noasca (Valle Orco)

The aim of this "sentiero natura" is to introduce to the reading of the landscape and its several aspects. It is situated at the borders of the Park, and it represents a useful preview to prepare in the best way to a visit to the Park and to understand its meaning and importance.
Along the itinerary going from the town of Noasca along a ring-route on the opposite side of the stream, a series of panels illustrate the fascinating world of nature through pictures, drawings, schemes, and tables.

I Sensi in gioco
Ceresole Reale (Valle Orco)

On 22nd November 2002, the "sentieri natura" prepared for disabled people (blind people) have been tested, after 10 years from the initial project.
The more than one kilometer long guided itinerary, with a modest steepness, can be gone through by blind people and by people who have difficulty in walking thanks to the handrail. It can also be gone through by wheelchair led by a guide. It is the first path for disabled people in the Park.
The project was realized thanks to a contribution of Conai (Consorzio Nazionale Imballaggi) to carry out some actions of environmental compatibility through the use of products made of recycled and recyclable materials.

  • Location: Ceresole Reale - Bg. Capoluogo (1,620 m)
  • Features: the itinerary develops for about one kilometer, with a modest slope and a large forest trail
  • Walking time: 1 hour
  • Difficulty: T
  • Opening period: from May to the end of September

The bottom of the valley
Chanavey (Val di Rhêmes)

12 stop points for a naturalistic itinerary which follows the bottom of the valley from Chanavey, where the visitor center is situated, to Pellaud.
Among the aspects illustrated in the brochure about the path, there are the ancient settlement techniques of the alpine villages, the life in the wetlands of the Park, the small secrets of the birds of the wood.
The itinerary is flat, it is easy and it can be gone through also without a particular training.

Colle della Losa
(Valle Orco-border with France)

It is an international path linking the two national parks of Gran Paradiso and of Vanoise, and the Valle dell’Orco with Val d’Isère through the homonymous hill, one of the rare practicable passes among the two parks.
The itinerary can be gone through only in the middle of the summer, and only by expert excursionists, since there are some very difficult stretches where you must use chains and fixed ropes.
It is a 5-hour-long itinerary leaving from the Lago del Serrù to Pont Saint-Charles in Val d’Isère, and with 750 meters of difference in height uphill: it touches the wetland of Pian della Ballotta, goes beyond the Colle della Losa, where you will find an orienteering panel giving the opportunity to indentify the summits in the distance, and it goes through some areas where the wild goat spends the summer.

Eaux Rousses (Valsavarenche)

From Eaux Rousses the route follows the ancient path leading to the hunting residence of Orvieille, going ahead to the alpine summer pasture lying above it, for a length of about two-hour walk.
A brochure gives you the opportunity to know something more about the 11 stop points situated along the path, from the red ferruginous spring of Eaux Rousses to the creation of the ancient dry stone walls, from the conifer woods to the glacial morphology of the valley, from the "pioneer" plants covering the most extreme environments to the ancient hunting residence of Orvieille. The route ends in one of the most beautiful panoramic points of the Park, from which it is possible to see the whole Gran Paradiso massif, from Gran Nomenon to Tresenta.

Ring-route to Mont Seuc
Cogne

15 stop and observation points for a naturalistic itinerary leaving from the arrival station of the cableway to the summit of Mont Seuc, and then it descends along the woods through a ring-route.
During the climb you will enjoy a wonderful view over the Valnontey and the glaciers of the Massif of Gran Paradiso.
