Pollen is made up of a myriad of microscopic corpuscles which are contained in the anthers of flowers and constitute their male germinal element. It therefore has a reproductive function, but is produced in quantities greater that the fertilization needs. The bees collect it on the flowers they visit by forming small balls that they deposit in the baskets of the hind legs and bring it to the hive.
