Ancient Crop Variety

Horticultural, cereal, and legume varieties, often endangered, found out and registered by the Park Authority through specific projects implemented by the Park, like:
  • "Patata turchesa" Project, aiming at recovering this ancient tuber variety characterized by the purplish color of the skin. In the past, it was cultivated in the mountain fields, and today it has almost disappeared;
  • "Cerere" Project, from the name of the ancient harvest procuress, aiming at recovering, preserving, and enhancing the ancient local cultivations. The project started in 2008 on L'Aquila slope of the protected area, thanks to the contribution of GAL Arca Abruzzo and the technical support of the Regional Agency for the Agricultural Development Services of Abruzzi (Agenzia Regionale per i Servizi di Sviluppo Agricolo dell'Abruzzo), and will involve in the future the whole territory of the National Park.
