In "Maurizio Locati" Visitor Center there is a large section dedicated to the Abruzzi Chamois, with educational panels and some dioramas illustrating the rocky environment of the Park.
On the upper floor there is an interesting archaeological section going over the history of eastern Majella from present times to the Middle Ages and to Prehistory. Among the most ancient finds there is the cast of the Man of Majella, found in Fonterossi, country hamlet of Lama dei Peligni (CH), dating back to over 7,000 years ago.
Annexed to the museum: "M. Tenore" Botanic Gardens, aviaries with birds of prey in rehabilitation, the reconstruction of the Neolithic village, the Abruzzi Chamois wildlife area.
The Center is the ideal departure point for hikes to the Mountain Hut Tarì, or to discover rock paintings, the hermitage of Grotta S. Angelo and Grotta del Cavallone (1,475 m above sea level). The latter is one of the highest caves in Europe open to the public. The visitors' itinerary develops for about one kilometer within the mountain. By crossing the large halls rich in stalactites and stalagmites, you can have an idea of the charm, complexity, and development of the subterranean world of Majella. More detailed information on the possibility to visit all the above-mentioned places can be obtained on the spot, in the info point of the Center. Leaving from the Center, you can take the Nature Trail, a short route suitable for everyone, and visit the Chamois Wildlife Area. Moreover, the Center is equipped with a projection and conference hall, a naturalistic-archaeological library, and an outdoor theater.
