Canyoning & Wilderness: The Realm of Wild Waters
Exploration and safeguard of the environment in one of the wildest and most untouched environment like the one of gorges and canyons cutting into the mountain ridges of the Park. Gorges and Canyons, naturally isolated, have preserved their invaluable natural heritage in exotic, spectacular, wild, and exciting environments.
    - Canyoning: a new and fascinating discipline, giving the opportunity to explore the wilderness with a delicate balance. New horizons of discovery, new virgin and vulnerable spaces, which is essential to discover with respect and awareness, since nature still dominates uncontested there.
    - Remarks on the itinerary: Cascate delle Callarelle and Gole dell'Ussita: from Casa del Parco in Ussita, we will get to the location "Poggio Paradiso" where there is the access to the wonderful waterfalls of Callarelle, in the gorges of the stream Ussita which deeply dug the bottom of the valley, shaping vertical, charming, and wild landscapes, rich in vegetation and big pot holes, full of white waters. The unceasing erosive and corrosive action on carbonate rocks has brought back to light the stratigraphic units, polishing them and making easy to read the fascinating history of the sedimentation cycles.

  • Saturday 8th July
Ring-route of the 3 Summits of Mt. Bove
The itinerary leaves from Frontignano (1,308 m) slightly descending and running along the rocky ridges of Mt. Bicco (presence of several arboreal species) and enters Val di Bove at the so-called "quinte" (elegant rocky structures that will inspire geological interpretations and brief explanations on the formation of Sibillini); from here, a short but non-stop uphill trail will lead to a spring (1,597 m) where we will stop and interpret the grazing land system, the history, and the value of shepherd's traditions for local communities. We will go ahead then towards Cresta del Bove and then to the "Croce" (1,905 m) where we will enjoy a wonderful view over Valnerina, the deep valley of Ussita, and the other grazing lands of Mt. Rotondo. Here the slow climb to the northern summit of Bove (2,112 m) begins: we will have lunch on a wonderful natural and overhanging balcony over the glacial undulation of the lonesome Val di Panico, among the calcareous giants of the northern Sibillini (Pizzo tre Vescovi, Pizzo Berro, Pizzo della Regina, and the imposing Mt. Priora). We will descend then towards the long grassy saddle leading to the southern summit of Bove (2,169 m), a ridge offering wonderful views over the glacial cirque of Val di Bove. This is one of the most panoramic points of the whole park, where you can enjoy 360° views among clouds and dreams. The intrusive presence of an old cableway will inspire some reflections on the compatibility of infrastructures in the mountains with adequate policies of sustainable development. From here, we will rapidly descend to the nearby skiing facilities (1,790 m), where a funny gravelly valley and an easy carriage road will lead us back to the cars.
    • Naturalistic/panoramic tour
