Valdemone Extra-virgin Olive Oil PDO

Valdemone is obtained from the oil of three main cultivars: Ogliarola Messinese, Santagatese, and Minuta. The oil is clear or slightly opaque, with a green color and golden shades. The fragrance recalls new-harvested olives and is completed by notes of herbs, leaves, and flowers of the spontaneous plants growing in the area. The taste of fresh olives is surrounded by a bitter contrast and the aftertaste smells of almond, fresh fruit, tomato, and cardoon.

  • Cultivation / Production Area: Municipalities in the Province of Messina

  • History: In the past, the term Valdèmone was linked to "Vallis Nemorum" ("Valley of the Forests"), recalling the forest richness of the territory. Moreover, it has always been linked to north-eastern Sicily because, from the Middle Ages to 1812, this part of Sicily used to be called Valdemone.
